  1. Hi,Matt! I'm Namiho Yamaguchi.
I choose Islam from the list.

One interesting thing I found is that a fast is performed in the Islam from the sunrise to sunset during a month of the Ramadan.

In Japan, there isn't such custom. So,I was very surprised.

I want to know about world religions more.
    See you next week!

  2. Hi,Matt:)
    I'm Saki Takahashi.

    I chose Judaism.
One fascinating thing I found is that
Jews who follow the religious rules called "Kashrut" only eat some types of food that are prepared by special rules.
Food that Jews can eat is called Kosher food.
For example, they can't eat any sea animal that doesn't have scales and fins, so crabs, shrimps and lobsters are not Kosher food.

They are very strict to food.
I want to know not only about Judaism but also other religions.
So I'm looking forward to next class!

    See you next class!!

  3. Hi,Mat!
    I am Toru Sugisaki.

    I choose Shinto.
What interesting thing I found is the praying called "Hatumoude".
In Japan most people think that they have not own religion, but they go to shrines on the first day of the year in order to pray for success of the year.

    See you next class!

  4. Hi! I'm Masumi Horie.

I choose Taoism. One interesting thing I found
is the phrase that "Dao ke dao fei chang dao."
In other words, "The Way that can be explained in words is not the true Way."
Taoists focus on living a simple and balanced life in harmony with nature instead of explaining Tao in vain. I think this phrase can be applied to our modern life.

I want to learn about religions more!
    See you next class!

  5. Hi! I'm Chie Kobayashi.
    I choose Shinto.

One interesting thing about Shinto I found is that its idea or action are stil seen in Japan.

For example, most Japanese people go to a shrine to pray for the safety of thier family or thier health on the new year's day. This action is based on the idea of Shinto, but most of them don't know it. It's very interesting.

I'm interested in religions very much!
    See you next class!

  7. Hi,Matt!
    I'm Hitomi Iizuka.

    I choose Hinduism.
One interesting thing I found is that Hinduism had first a concept of reincarnation.

Reincarnation means that people are born in another body after they die. This idea exists in not only Hinduism but also Buddhism,Janism,Celtic pagans, and some African religions. Many Japanese people know the concept of reincarnation, which is called "rinnetensyou" in Japan, but may not know its origin.

    See you next class!

  8. Hi,Matt!
    I'm Ayuka Niwa.
    I chose Bahá'í Faith.
This religion is newer than other major religions. So,the beliefs of it is intereting.
For example, they believe science and religion do not have to disagree, because they're looking at the same world from two different sides , and we should have one extra language that everyone understands.
I don't know this religion until now and I am surprised that there are a lot of religions.

    See you next class!

  9. Hi,Matt!
    I'm Akiko Yamanobe.
    I choose Isram.
One interesting thing I found is what is called "The Five Pillars of Islam". Muslims have to keep these rules but these are so hard.
I think these are too severe for me to do. Therefore, I admire Muslim's piousness.

There are many religions I don't know so I want to know about them.
    See you next class!

  10. Hello,Matt!
    I'm Mana Hasegawa.
I chose Bahá'í Faith, because I did not know the religion until I read the wikipedia. So,I wanted to know it.
One interesting I found is what is called Feast which is Bahá'ís meet.
Sometimes there is music and song, sometimes plays, sometimes just quiet time or meditation.

I thought each religions have a fixed ritual.
However, prayers of this religion do different things in every meeting.

In my opinion, there are more religions all over the world which I did not still realize!

    See you next class.

  16. Hi,I'm Haruka.
    This time I chose Shinto.

I was surprised that Shinto had been believed before WWⅡ, because I thought Shinto has been scince long long years ago.

I like Shinto's belief. Many Japanese think that every things are with gods. That makes me thankful for everything around me.

    See you latter.
